The Detroit Auto Show may kick off the new year, but Chicago gets its time to shine in February with the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, the organization's 100th edition. The Second City has a first-rate facility in McCormick Place, something that isn't overlooked by the major manufacturers, motoring press, and members of the general public descending on the show during the first few weeks in February.
The big news out of Chicago is the highly-anticipated 2008 Dodge Challenger. Two years after making its concept debut at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, Challenger SRT8 was unveiled in full production trim. This modern-day muscle car has retro looks that pay tribute to the original Challenger, as well as a Hemi V8 that conjures up ghosts of drag strips past.
While the Challenger may be the headliner, there's plenty of other news. Trucks dominated in Chicago, as the Hummer H3T made its debut followed by Chevrolet's new-for-2009 Traverse. The GMC Sierra Hybrid was also on the stage alongside a concept truck called the Denali XT Hybrid.
Hyundai made news with its refreshed-for-2009 Sonata and new Elantra Touring hatchback, and Acura brought the 2009 RL out of the curtains. BMW and Suzuki contributed to the concept reveals with the Concept 1 Series tii and a trio of Equator Concept pickups, respectively.
