I get where Lexus is going with the LX, and it works decently enough as a conveyance for the upper class with real wanderlust who want to share it with up to seven friends. Problem is, the Lexus Land Cruiser is a bit too truck-like for its own good. It shows with a bouncy ride, tricky maneuverability, and indifferent handling. If you don't need to haul up to eight passengers, a Range Rover is just as capable off road and easier to live with on road.

Price aside for a moment, the LX 570 is really a Range Rover for the bling averse. The never-to-be-exploited off-road prowess is probably within striking distance, and the LX is mighty comfy inside. Now let's discuss price. At a cool $82,000, our LX costs as much as a Range Rover...but without the bling or cache, and I expect most people want both for their nearly six-digit outlay. Fortunately for Lexus, sales projections for costly SUVs are modest--so you can add exclusivity as a selling point.
