Lexus steps into the super-sedan arena with a thoroughly impressive contender. The IS-F is a remarkable high-performance vehicle that doesn't skimp on luxury or refinement. Its 5.0-liter V8 is a Jeckyll and Hyde powerhouse that is subdued in city cruising, and positively hair-raising under the whip. These uber-performance sedans aren't relaxed cruisers, so if you're looking for a supple ride, look elsewhere. However, if you're shopping M3s, RS4s, C63s, and CTS-Vs, you should add the IS-F to your list.

Overall the Lexus IS F is an impressive machine. The engine makes glorious noises and mates well with the 8-speed automatic. I'm not sure the F matches a BMW M3 overall, but few things do. If you're in the market for a true sport sedan, you should check out the IS F.

It's priced in the BMW M3 stratosphere, but the Lexus gives its Teutonic rival a good run for its money. Heck, the engine note alone is worth the considerable cost.
