Consumer Guide® Road Test Ratings
Acceleration

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
7 7 6

EX35 is strong from a stop and executes passing maneuvers with ease. An AWD model did 0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds, but feels even stronger. EX35's automatic transmission is generally smooth with prompt downshifts.
Fuel Economy

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
4 4 4.5

In Consumer Guide testing a 2WD model averaged 21.2 mpg. Test AWD averaged 20.8 mpg. Both figures impress given the available power. EX35 requires premium-grade gas.
Ride Quality

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
6 6 5.5

Smooth and stable on 17-inch wheels. Small pavement imperfections are absorbed well, and only larger bumps jar. Rated test vehicles were shod with the available 18-inch wheels which exact a small toll in overall ride comfort.
Steering/Handling/Braking

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
7 7 6.3

Overall car-like. EX corners well and exhibits only slightly more body lean than G35. A relatively tight turning radius aids in low-speed maneuvering. The optional Lane Departure Prevention system uses subtle braking impulses and beeps to alert driver of potential wandering at speeds above 45 mph and then corrects the vehicle's direction. The brakes are smooth and strong.
Quietness

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
7 7 6.3

EX35's cabin is fairly well isolated from tire and wind noise. Modest road noise can be heard over coarse surfaces. Engine emits gratifying, brawny growl during brisk acceleration.
Controls

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
7 7 6

Both models have a 7-inch dashboard screen with or without the navigation system, and many functions work through controls mounted horizontally below the screen. The navigation system itself is refreshingly easy to use, and many audio and climate functions are separate from it. The optional Around View Monitoring system displays four views of the vehicle on the navigation screen and is easy to use. EX35's Optional Lane Departure Prevention system turns on and off via a steering wheel-mounted button. Models with the power folding rear seat feature two power fold buttons, one on the center console and one closer to the hatch.

Top-notch cabin assembly. Soft-touch surfaces abound. Luxe Elite package's plush leather is accented by wood trim throughout the cabin and imparts a classy look and feel. Optional fold down coat hanger behind the driver's seat a nice convenience feature, but it should be standard, rather than part of a pricey option package.
Room/Comfort/Driver Seating (front)

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
7 7 6.8

Good headroom and legroom for average-sized folks, but taller drivers may need more space. The comfortable driving position is enhanced by a slightly elevated ride height and supportive, bolstered seats. Huge side mirrors help rearward visibility, which is badly hampered by the small, raked rear window and 2nd-row headrests.
Room/Comfort (rear)

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
4 4 5

Headroom is ample, but legroom is tight even if the seats are not set far back. Bolstered seats are supportive and comfortable. Wide swinging doors help ease entry and exit though door opening is too small for easy entry and exit.
Cargo Room

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
7 7 8

EX35's wide opening hatch and fairly low height aid in loading cargo. Journey's power-folding 2nd row creates a nearly flat load floor with ease. EX35's cabin features large glovebox and deep center console, but has shallow door pockets.
Value within Class

2WD Journey AWD Journey Class Average
8 8 5.8

With its smooth, powerful engine and well-appointed cabin, EX35 is a sportier, more luxurious alternative to Acura's RDX. Like G35's comfortable, posh interior, sporty performance, and available AWD but need more cargo utility? This Recommended pick has you covered.
