Think of the Infiniti EX concept, an upscale new compact SUV, as the premium-midsize Infiniti FX's "mini me."
What We Know About the 2008 Infiniti EX Concept
Infiniti hopes to score some crossover-SUV sales with this sleek, coupe-like luxury compact wagon. This premium division of Nissan has thus far shown the EX only in auto-show concept form, but Infiniti says this is the most production-ready concept it's ever shown. Infiniti promises a production version of EX before the year is out, and will call it EX35.
The compact luxury crossover seats five in an interior appointed with leather and aluminum alloy trim accents. It's based on the same chassis used for Infiniti's premium midisize G35 sedan and will employ the same 306-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6, five-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive system.
Infiniti used the 2008 EX concept to show off what it calls "world's first technologies," all of which are likely to be offered in the production EX35. Infiniti calls one the Around View Monitor System. It uses front-, side-, and rear-mounted cameras to help detect blind spots.
Another new technology is an updated version of Infiniti's Lane Departure Warning system, currently found on the FX premium midsize SUV and Infiniti M premium midsize car. The updated system, called Lane Departure Prevention, uses the vehicle's stability control system to help the driver stay in the chosen lane if the system senses drifting.

Buying Advice for the 2008 Infiniti EX Concept
A production EX would go head-to-head with such luxury compact crossovers as the Acura RDX, BMW X3, and Land Rover LR2. Infiniti, however, is on a roll, both in styling, technology, and value pricing, so wait to drive the EX before committing to one of its rivals.
2008 Infiniti EX Concept Release Date: While the EX shown at the New York Auto Show was in concept guise, Infiniti plans to begin selling its production counterpart in late fall.
