2008 Hyundai Tucson Review
The 2008 Hyundai Tucson is largely unchanged, but a new 4-cylinder Limited model is available. This compact crossover SUV is slightly smaller and less costly than Hyundai's Santa Fe. Tucson comes in GLS, Limited, SE, and Limited V6 trims. GLS and Limited have a 140-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. GLS offers either a manual or automatic transmission, but Limited is automatic only. SE and Limited V6 have a 173-hp 2.7-liter V6 and automatic transmission. Maximum towing capacity is 2000 lb. All offer front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is optional on SE and Limited V6. The AWD has a dashboard switch that locks in a 50/50 front/rear power split. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, an antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. A sunroof is available on SE and Limiteds. Limited and Limited V6 have specific exterior trim, automatic climate control, and leather upholstery. Tucson lends its basic design to the Sportage at Hyundai's Kia division.
Competition
Consumer Guide Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Among utility vehicles, Compact SUVs are typically the least costly and offer the best fuel economy. Most utilize a car-type chassis and are not designed for heavy-duty, off-road use. Nearly all are five-passenger vehicles; some offer seating for seven.

Our Best Buys are the Honda CR-V and Suzuki Grand Vitara. Our Recommended picks are the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Saturn Vue, and Toyota RAV4.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Jeep Liberty, Mazda Tribute, Nissan Rogue, and Saturn Vue.
