Sonata is a good car that's held back from being a great one by virtue of some pretty annoying flaws. The most key among them is its suspension design, which tries to balance ride comfort and handling prowess while failing miserably at both. Hyundai's warranty is still a strong point, but this car no longer significantly undercuts major competitors on price. The difference between this 4-cylinder Sonata Limited and a comparably equipped version of Chevrolet's excellent Malibu is less than $1000.

Although not as refined as some rivals, Sonata offers a lot for the money. In four-cylinder form it delivers good performance with excellent fuel economy.

Our four-cylinder Sonata Limited test car was a nice enough car, but it is only a mid-pack competitor in a class that is filled with many excellent choices.
