Consumer Guide's Impressions of the 2008 Hyundai Genesis
Hyundai is pitching the 2008 Genesis sedan squarely at BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz. Given the mediocre sales of the make's $25,000-$30,000 near-luxury Azera sedan, Hyundai may be grasping for stars it can't yet reach.
What We Know About the 2008 Hyundai Genesis
Looking decidedly upscale, the 2008 Hyundai Genesis will feature two firsts for the Korean brand: rear-wheel drive and a V-8 engine. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the 4.6-liter V8 is expected to produce in excess of 300 horsepower.
Expect this midsize premium upstart to feature the usual complement of luxury amenities including available push-button start, adaptive cruise control, and xenon headlamps.

A Notable Feature of the 2008 Hyundai Genesis
Genesis's all-new rear-drive chassis is expected to play host to several future Hyundai products, most notably the next generation Hyundai Tiburon sports coupe due for 2009.
Buying Advice for the 2008 Hyundai Genesis
Wait. Genesis is a risky proposition for Hyundai and has the potential to be dropped from the maker's lineup in relatively short order. Typically, such short-lived cars are resale-value liabilities.
