Even with the All-Terrain package that's meant for serious off-roading, our Sierra test truck was comfortable and refined on the expressway. The 5.3-liter V8 engine works great with the automatic transmission, and the cylinder-deactivation feature works transparently and helps give surprisingly good highway gas mileage.

The Sierra 1500 SLT crew cab in this test felt supremely capable and comfortable. This specific one came to a considerable $44,755 delivered, but it had the All-Terrain Off-Road option package; a big-pickup buyer who's NOT headed for the boondocks could enjoy a considerable savings without this package and still have a great truck.
