2008 Dodge Avenger Review
The 2008 Dodge Avenger marks this brand's return to the midsize sedan segment. Assuming the slot once occupied by the Stratus, Avenger is about 4 inches taller than that car, but is otherwise similar in size. Avenger shares its basic design with the Sebring from Dodge's parent company, Chrysler. SE, SXT, and sporty R/T and R/T AWD models are available. SE and SXT come with a 172-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 190-hp 2.7-liter V6 is optional for SXT. R/Ts have a 235-hp 3.5-liter V6. R/T AWD models have all-wheel drive, and other Avengers are front drive. The 2.4 and 2.7 use a 4-speed automatic transmission, the 3.5 a 6-speed automatic. Front-drive R/Ts have a sport suspension. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. Optional is a navigation system with digital-audio connectivity, wireless cell phone link, and Chrysler's MyGIG, a 20-gigabyte hard drive that can hold music or picture files. Other options include a heated and cooled cupholder, remote engine start, leather upholstery, and DVD entertainment.
Competition
Consumer Guide Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Midsize Cars represent the heart of the U.S. car market. Most are price-sensitive, conservatively designed, family oriented sedans and wagons.

Our Best Buys include Honda Accord and Kia Rondo. Our Recommended picks are the Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Mazda 5, Mercury Milan, Nissan Altima, Saturn Aura, and Toyota Camry.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Chevrolet Malibu, Dodge Avenger, Honda Accord, and Mazda 5.
