Ford's luxury division unveiled a concept crossover SUV in Detroit. One longer, lower, and potentially more fuel efficient than its production MKX SUV.
Lincoln's MKT Concept seems more a platform for fuel-saving technologies than a potential luxury concept. The second Ford product introduced in Detroit to feature the maker's claimed high-efficiency EcoBoost engine technology, MKT also boasts post-consumer composite-plastic body panels for weight savings.
Here the E85-capable EcoBoost engine is a V6 displacing 3.5-liters good for 415 horsepower. Ford claims that when mated with a six-speed automatic transmission, the EcoBoost engine will use 20 percent less gas than a V8 producing the same horsepower.
Inside, MKT has a "first-class cabin" and fully reclining seating for four. Up front, vital vehicle information is projected onto a curved area of the center stack instead of displayed in a digital readout or on a video screen.
Though there are no production plans for MKT, it could foreshadow a large Lincoln SUV based on Ford's upcoming Flex crossover.
