While the new 6.2-liter V8 engine doesn't feel any different than the previous 6.0-liter motor in terms of acceleration, the 2008 Corvette benefits from improvements to its steering and clutch. GM has taken an already exceptional vehicle and made it even better. Corvette remains the hands-down champion of performance, handling, everyday usability, and value.

Corvette is still fun--still a good value.

Corvette is an excellent all-around sports car. The performance level is more than most people will ever be able to fully explore on the street, the car is very comfortable for larger adults, it offers surprising practicality, and provides excellent value compared to the competition. Corvette also provides surprisingly good highway fuel economy. I drove our base 2008 Corvette coupe with the 6-speed manual transmission on a one day trip from SE Wisconsin to SW Michigan and back, getting better than 28.4 mpg in the process.
Rick Cotta
Some might dismiss the Corvette as too commonplace, but there's a reason it is: You just can't get more sports car bang for the buck. Period. Those who snub their noses at the 'Vette will find themselves either being left in the dust or spending plenty more to beat it. There are truer sports-car experiences, but it's hard to argue against Corvette's combination of performance, luxury, cargo room, and yes, even economy--should you be able to resist the lure of 430 horses chomping at the bit.
Tom Appel
Corvette is such a strong value that any midlife-crisis victim should be able to sell his wife on one. Long-weekend cargo space, reasonable fuel-economy, and bargain pricing when compared to similarly high-performance rides from Germany or Italy. Our base car with the chrome wheels is freakishly good looking, and the noise it makes -- intoxicating. As a bonus, this exotic sportster is as docile as a Malibu in traffic. There's nothing to think about. Just buy it.

It's a good thing for Z06 drivers, for bystanders, for the public at large, really, that this beast is a punishing, high-priced, hyper-performance handful that comes only with manual transmission. We pray those "compromises" will repel poseurs who don't respect the Z06's propensity to whip itself sideways in even part-throttle acceleration. On the public roads, in the wrong hands, this car is a loaded gun.

I test drove a 2008 Infiniti G37 Sport 6MT coupe not long before my test session in the 2008 Corvette Z06. Darned if I didn't find this 505-hp super-Vette as tractable and easy to drive as the Infiniti. That's an impressive achievement for a vehicle with this much hair on its chest. Make no mistake though... the Z06 is an extreme vehicle for serious enthusiasts with advanced driving skills.
John Biel
The Corvette, particularly the Z06, remains an intriguingly civilized brute. It obviously has the capability to be driven fast and hard, but it is still tractable enough for, if not everyday, then at least "mostday" use. That actually raises its consumer value quotient. On the downside, the Z06 seems to have a real sweet tooth for premium fuel when noodling around below open-road speeds.

The Z06 is a Corvette turned up to "eleven." At least. Amazingly, the 505-hp LS7 V8 will plod along in heavy suburban traffic and cruise effortlessly on the expressway pretty much like any "normal" car on your daily commute to the office. But the Z06 has a little edge to it that lets you know it would be much happier thundering down to Turn 5 at Road America rather than navigating I-94 entrance ramps and grocery store parking lots. If your daily routine is like mine, you'll probably be much happier in a "regular" Corvette.
