2007 Toyota Yaris Review
This new subcompact replaces the discontinued Echo as Toyota's smallest car. Yaris comes as a 2-dr hatchback and as a 4-dr sedan that's 19 inches longer overall. The only engine is a 106-hp 4-cyl that teams with a 5-speed manual transmission or optional 4-speed automatic. Both body styles come in base trim and sedans are also available as uplevel S models. ABS is optional, as is a package that includes front side airbags and curtain side airbags. A split folding rear seat is standard on S and available on the base sedan. Hatchbacks are available with a split folding rear seat that reclines and slides fore and aft. Other options include remote entry and power windows, locks, and mirrors.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. The subcompact class is made up of the smallest hatchbacks, sedans, and wagons on the market. These are generally considered economy cars.

Our Best Buys include the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio. Our Recommended picks are the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Hyundai Accent, Honda Fit and Suzuki SX4.
News
Yaris is barely a yearling, so don't expect much change for a while. However, there's a rumor that a 5-dr hatchback model will migrate from Canada to U.S. dealers in the next year or two. Stay tuned.
