2007 Nissan Pathfinder Review
Nissan's seven-passenger midsize SUV is a truck-type wagon with independent rear suspension. Pathfinder offers S, SE, SE Off-Road, and luxury-oriented LE models. All have a 270-hp V6 and a 5-speed automatic transmission. The SE Off-Road is 4-wheel drive only. The others are available with rear-wheel drive or 4WD. LE's 4WD is Nissan's All-Mode system that can be left engaged on dry pavement. The 4WD on other models should not be left engaged on dry pavement. Both 4WD systems have low-range gearing. ABS and an antiskid system are standard. Front side airbags and curtain side airbags that cover all seating rows are standard on LE, optional on other models. Pathfinders have a 50/50 split folding 3rd-row seat. Leather upholstery and a sunroof are standard on LE, optional on SE versions. SE Off-Road comes with specific tires and shock absorbers, additional chassis skid plates, and hill descent and ascent. Other available Pathfinder features include power-adjustable pedals and DVD entertainment.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Larger than Compact SUVs, Midsize SUVs offer a mix of car- and truck-type construction, V6 and V8 power, and up to eight-passenger seating. This class also includes crossover vehicles.

Our Best Buy choice is the Honda Pilot. Our Recommended picks are the Ford Explorer, Ford Freestyle, Mazda CX-7, Nissan Murano, and Toyota Highlander.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Dodge Nitro, Ford Edge, GMC Acadia, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-7, Mazda CX-9, Saturn Outlook, Suzuki XL-7, and Toyota FJ Cruiser.
News
Nissan wants no grass growing around its lineup, so Pathfinder, though only two years old, is expected to be freshened for 2008. So are the Frontier pickup and big Armada SUV. A redesigned Pathfinder is now rumored for 2010 or '11, some six-12 months behind a new version of the related Xterra SUV.
