AUTO SHOW 2007: New York

NYAS
Over 1000 vehicles are on display at the 2007 New York Auto Show.
New York's annual auto show is the manufacturers' last chance to grab headlines and motivate new-car shoppers for the spring selling season.

While product introductions were heavy this year, the concept reveals certainly didn't disappoint. Headline introductions from Audi, Hyundai, Jeep, and Subaru made a big splash in the Big Apple.

Since New York is the news capital of the nation, its auto show is all about media exposure. As usual, Consumer Guide is covering the show live, distilling the hype, cutting to the chase, and providing you with important details you'll need to make the right vehicle choice.

Check out what's new at the 2007 New York Auto Show.

Though similar in size to Audi's compact A4 sedan, these new coupes eschew the A4's entry-level four-cylinder engine and sub-$30,000 base pricing. The coupes come in two forms, called A5 and the higher-performance S5. Click here for more.

Chevrolet Trax Concept
Trax is one of three new General Motors "global" concept vehicles unveiled at the 2007 New York Auto Show to test the public's reaction to a new class of Chevrolets. All three are tiny cars, smaller than anything Chevy has sold in the U.S., and our take is that the wagonlike Trax is the best bet to make it into production, maybe as a 2010 offering. 2008 Volvo XC70
The 2008 Volvo XC70, like the original XC70 introduced for 1997, bridges the gap between a station wagon and an SUV. You won't get that view-over-the-traffic seat height, but otherwise, the shapely, strong, all-wheel-drive 2008 Volvo XC70 may be the smart-SUV's buyers' choice, precisely because it's not an SUV.
