2007 Mitsubishi Raider Review
The 2007 Mitsubishi Raider gets an available V8 engine as a late model-year addition. This slow-selling pickup truck is essentially a reskinned Dodge Dakota. Available body styles include a two-door extended cab with a 6.5-foot bed and a four-door "Double Cab" crew cab with a 5.3-foot bed. Extended cabs come in LS trim and have rear-hinged back doors that don't open independently of the fronts. They have a 210-hp 3.7-liter V6 engine. Double Cabs come in LS, SE, and DuroCross trims. Depending on model selection, available engines include the V6 or a 230-hp 4.7-liter V8. A 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission is available with the V6. A 5-speed automatic is standard with the V8. Most Raider models are rear-wheel drive. LS Double Cabs are available with four-wheel drive that includes low-range gearing but should not be left engaged on dry pavement. Rear-wheel ABS is standard, and four-wheel ABS is not available. Also unavailable are safety features such as an antiskid system, traction control, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Compact Pickups offer a true-truck design in a relatively modest package. They are best suited for personal or light-duty use rather than commercial use, heavy hauling, or towing.

Our Best Buy is the Toyota Tacoma. Our Recommended picks are the Dodge Dakota and Honda Ridgeline.

New or significantly redesigned is the Ford Explorer Sport Trac.
News
Raider has been a sales dud, which says much about what Americans think of Mitsubishi these days. It also suggests Raider may be dumped very soon, especially as some Mitsubishi executives say the borrowed pickup was a "bad decision" in the first place. At best, expect only token changes for the next two years--if Raider hangs around that long.
