2007 Lexus LX 470 Review
Lexus's flagship SUV is basically a retrimmed Land Cruiser from parent-company Toyota. The only powertrain teams a 268-hp V8 with a 5-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive with low-range gearing is standard, as is ABS and traction/antiskid control. LX seats eight. Front side airbags are standard, as are curtain side airbags that cover the first two seating rows. LX also comes with driver-adjustable shock absorbers and ride-height controls. A navigation system with rearview camera and wireless cell phone link are standard. DVD entertainment is optional. So is Lexus's Night View system, which projects onto the windshield a black-and-white image of objects beyond headlight range. LX 470's performance and accommodations mirror those of the Land Cruiser.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Typically based on mainstream Large SUVs, Premium Large SUVs are super-sized luxury liners. All are powerful, pricey, and extremely thirsty at the pump.

Our Best Buy is the Cadillac Escalade. Our Recommended picks are the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.
News
LX 470 was due to get the axe by now, but got a reprieve instead. A reliable source says it carries on a while longer, even though Toyota has a redesigned Land Cruiser coming in 2008. Lexus apparently weighed a replacement based on the Toyota Sequoia, but decided against it, so the LX continues as the brand's big truck-based SUV. How long it can last is anyone's guess given its aged design and the general slump in big-SUV sales amid record gas prices.
