With a slightly improved ride, up-to-date safety features, and more civilized accommodations (like door armrests), this is the first Wrangler I'd consider for day-to-day transportation. The hardtop's removable front sections are especially appreciated and a noteworthy feature. Prices have dropped considerably when the additional standard equipment is factored in, adding to the value and appeal of this unique little vehicle.

Having owned a CJ-7, I have always said you don't drive a Jeep, you ride it. The new Wrangler has maintained that bucking bronco attitude, which makes it mighty cool for around-town blasts, and completely unbearable for commuting and long journeys. The price is pretty rough, too. Something impractical enough to mandate owning a second car for long trips should not tickle $30,000.

They're still slow, inefficient, and handle poorly, but as a 4-door, Wrangler is the first one that makes a reasonable case as a daily driver. But if off roading is your thing, you're not going to find many vehicles more capable than this one.

A buyer would have to really, really want or need the Wrangler Unlimited's off-road capabilities to be willing to spend the $31,450 (delivered) that this test vehicle cost. As the test vehicle was equipped, that money bought little in the way of the creature comforts so many drivers have come to expect in their everyday transportation. ("Crank my own windows!? How does THAT work?") Plus, a buyer would have to accept compromises in ride and passenger comfort. For truly getting "out there," though, it could be seen as money well spent.
