2007 Hyundai Tucson Review
This compact SUV is slightly smaller and less costly than Hyundai's Santa Fe SUV, but also employs a car-type platform. Tucson comes in GLS, SE, and Limited trim. GLS has a 140-hp 4-cyl engine and manual or automatic transmission. SE and Limited have a 173-hp V6 and automatic transmission. All offer front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The AWD lacks low-range gearing, but a dashboard switch locks in a 50/50 front/rear power split. ABS and traction/antiskid control are standard. So are front side airbags and curtain side airbags. A sunroof is available on SE and Limited. Limiteds have specific exterior trim, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. Tucson lends its basic design to the Sportage at Hyundai's Kia division.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Among utility vehicles, Compact SUVs are typically the least costly and offer the best fuel economy. Most utilize a car-type chassis and are not designed for heavy-duty, off-road use. Nearly all are five-passenger vehicles.

Our Best Buys include the Honda CR-V and Suzuki Grand Vitara. Our Recommended picks are the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Toyota RAV4.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Acura RDX, Honda CR-V, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Wrangler, and Mitsubishi Outlander.
News
Tucson is still a newbie, so any near-term changes should be minor. A facelift is possible for 2008 or '09.
