2007 Chrysler Crossfire Review
Crossfire returns for 2007 after skipping the 2006 model year. This two-seater blends American styling with engineering from Chrysler's parent-company Mercedes-Benz. Crossfire comes as a hatchback coupe and as a convertible with a power soft top and heated glass rear window. Both body styles offer base and Limited models. The high-performance SRT-6 model is no longer available. The lone engine is a 215-hp Mercedes V6. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, a 5-speed automatic is optional on Limited. ABS, traction/antiskid control, and side airbags are standard on all Crossfires. Curtain side airbags are unavailable, but driver and passenger knee airbags are added for '07. A plug-in air compressor and a can of tire sealant are provided instead of a spare tire. Limited comes with leather upholstery and is available with a navigation system.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Offering more power and style than typical Sporty/Performance vehicles, Premium Sporty/Performance Cars usually cost much more and have more comfort and convenience equipment. Two-passenger convertibles and four-seat coupes rule the roost in this class.

Our Best Buys are the BMW Z4 and Chevrolet Corvette. Our Recommended picks are the Jaguar XK Series and Porsche Boxster, and Porsche Cayman.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Jaguar XK Series and Volkswagen Eos.
News
Crossfire skipped 2006 so Chrysler could clear a backlog of unsold '05s. But with demand still very sluggish, Crossfire is going away after 2007. Like most high-style niche cars, this one fast lost its novelty value, becoming a tough sell after sophomore 2004. Some analysts also think Chrysler overestimated the market. But Crossfire wasn't a total loss. As the glamorous first result of the Chrysler/Mercedes-Benz merger, it drew attention to the Chrysler brand and a few new customers too.

And Chrysler may not be finished with two-seaters. We hear the company is still debating a high-performance luxury coupe patterned on the 2005 Firepower concept. If approved, this all-American car would combine the Dodge Viper platform with unique styling, a tuned Hemi V8, and a full load of standard creature comforts.
