Toyota's youth-oriented Scion division debuted two early 2008 models at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. The redesigned 2008 xB subcompact is larger and more powerful than the outgoing first-generation model. Compared to its predecessor, the new xB is a foot longer, almost three inches wider, and four inches longer in wheelbase. The sole engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that supplies 158 horsepower, up 55 from the first generation xB. Transmission choices consist of a 5-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

Antilock brakes, antiskid/traction control, front side airbags, and front and rear curtain side airbags are all standard. The xB also comes standard with a 160-watt CD stereo with MP3 capability and iPod connectivity. In keeping with the brand's focus on personalization, Scion displayed both a factory stock xB and a customized version at the Chicago show. Pricing was not announced, but officials said that the redesigned xB will be in dealerships this April.

The second model on the Scion stage was the 2008 xD. This four-door hatchback replaces the 2004-2006 xA. The xD's 60/40 split-folding rear seats recline up to ten degrees and slide fore and aft up to six inches to favor passenger or cargo space. A 128 horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder is the only engine, with the choice of a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Antilock brakes, front side airbags, and front and rear curtain side airbags are standard. A 160-watt CD stereo with MP3 capability and iPod connectivity is also standard. An antiskid/traction control system is the sole factory option.

In keeping with Scion's focus on personalization, both a factory stock xD and a customized version were on display at the Chicago show. Scion didn't announce pricing, but officials said the xD will hit dealerships this August.
