2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer Review
TrailBlazer loses its extended-length, seven-passenger models for 2007. This truck-type SUV shares a GM design that also includes the Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7X. TrailBlazer offers LS, uplevel LT, and sporty SS trims. All TrailBlazers seat five, have antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, and 4-speed automatic transmission. LS and LT come with a 291-hp 6-cyl engine. An optional 300-hp V8 includes GM's Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation. The SS has a 395-hp V8, sport suspension, and unique trim. LS and LT offer rear-wheel drive or GM's Autotrac 4WD, which can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing. The SS is available with 2WD or all-wheel drive without low-range gearing. An antiskid system with rollover sensors is standard on all models. Optional are curtain side airbags, DVD entertainment, and a navigation system.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Larger than Compact SUVs, Midsize SUVs offer a mix of car- and truck-type construction, V6 and V8 power, and up to eight-passenger seating. This class also includes crossover vehicles.

Our Best Buy choice is the Honda Pilot. Our Recommended picks are the Ford Explorer, Ford Freestyle, Mazda CX-7, Nissan Murano, and Toyota Highlander.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Dodge Nitro, Ford Edge, GMC Acadia, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-7, Mazda CX-9, Saturn Outlook, Suzuki XL-7, and Toyota FJ Cruiser.
News
TrailBlazer is now on death row, as are its stablemates. Factors include sluggish sales, uncertainty over future gas prices, and the market's general shift away from truck-type designs in the midsize SUV class. We understand TrailBlazer and company are to be phased out fairly soon, perhaps by 2009.
