Sometimes, things just cost what they cost, and if the thing you value is a delightfully sporty convertible that doubles as a snug coupe with its hardtop raised, a car that rewards the atuned driver, and an exhaust note that serenades the ear, then $52,000 is what that costs.

Great car, bad choice of tires. (18-inch wheels)

While this hardtop was fast, fun, and refined I'd still choose an Eos. In terms of value, it makes more sense to me. Eos also gets the vote in my book for its exterior styling.

Aside from laughable top-down trunk space and some irksome top-up creaks over bumps, the 3-Series convertible is hard to fault. A more polished chassis doesn't exist, and the powertrain ranks with the best. It would evidently take me more than the two days and 150 miles spent with the car to get used to the annoying turn signals, but I'd gladly drive it until I do.

BMW does it best. It costs the most, but this four-place hardtop convertible easily bests the Volvo C70 and Volkswagen Eos in rigidity, available power, and handling. The VW is still the better value, but if you have the coin to invest in something a step up, this Ultimate Driving Machine lives up to the pretense.
