It's still plenty expensive, but an A4 cabriolet with the S-Line package is a worthwhile choice for Audi droptop shoppers who crave the S4's agility but can live without the S4's extra horsepower.
John Biel
The A4 convertible in this test made for an attractive, comfortable, and responsive car. As equipped, though, it was quite expensive ($57,770 delivered) in relation to its passenger- and cargo-carrying capability. But if you're going to have a showy plaything, you could do worse than getting one with the inherent qualities of an Audi A4.

There's no premium compact currently on the market that matches the S4's level of grip and go. That will change for sure when BMW's M3 eventually hits the streets here. For now, the S4 is the premium compact choice for dedicated hotfoots who place acceleration and extreme cornering prowess over back seat space and fuel efficiency.
Ed Piotrowski
For the enthusiast, S4 has a lot to like--power everywhere, a sweet manual transmission, terrific grip, and the all-weather stability of all-wheel drive. This compact is let down mostly by its cost, with prices that can reach beyond $57,000. At that point, except for AWD and 40 horsepower, there's not a whole lot to recommend S4 over the much less expensive BMW 335i.
Tom Appel
Though lacking the pure adrenaline of Audi's insane RS4, the better balanced S4 pleases with sublime prowess. Still impressively quick, the S4 is stealthy where the RS4 is brutal, yet nearly as rewarding to drive aggressively. Make mine black, and help me explain to my wife why we're spending fifty large on a compact sedan.
