2006 Toyota Sienna Review
All Siennas get standard front side airbags and curtain side airbags for 2006, and the top-line version is available with a power folding 3rd-row seat. Sienna comes in CE, LE, XLE, and leather-trimmed XLE Limited models. All use a 215-hp V6 and a 5-speed automatic transmission. All models are available with front-wheel drive and all but the CE are available with all-wheel drive. Standard seating is for seven via 2nd-row buckets and a 60/40 3rd-row bench that folds into a floowell. CE and LE can carry eight with an optional 2nd-row bench. Standard features include ABS, tilt/telescope steering wheel, and rear air conditioning. Power operation for the right-side sliding door is optional for LEs. XLEs and Limiteds come with dual power doors and a power liftgate. The curtain side airbags cover all seating rows; they previously were standard only on Limited models. Traction/antiskid control is standard on Limited and AWD models, optional otherwise. Limited exclusives include xenon headlamps, front/rear obstacle detection, and adaptive cruise control; these are joined for '06 by power folding door mirrors with turn signal lamps. The optional power 3rd-row seat is exclusive to the XLE Limited.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position. Long the choice as the family hauler, Minivans are easily the smartest use of space for passengers and cargo. These vehicles offer a fantastic blend of comfort, convenience, and safety features for the modern family.

Our Best Buys include Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, and Honda Odyssey. Our Recommended pick is Toyota Sienna.

Kia Sedona is new or significantly redesigned.
News
Though Sienna shouldn't see any major near-term design change, a hybrid-power option could be coming in the next 2-3 years. Toyota is moving to make gas/electric power available across its entire lineup, with a goal of one million annual worldwide hybrid sales by 2010. We'd look for the gas/electric minivan around 2009, with a powertrain that may not mimic that of SUV platform-mates Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX 400h.
