2006 Subaru Forester: Overview

More power and freshened looks mark 2006 for Subaru's compact SUV. Forester comes in four models: 2.5 X, 2.5 X Premium Package, 2.5 X L.L. Bean, and 2.5 XT. All Foresters have all-wheel drive and a horizontally opposed 4-cyl engine. For '06, the turbocharged XT adds 20 hp for 230 total. The other models gain 8 hp, for 173. A 4-speed automatic transmission is standard on the L.L. Bean and optional on the others in place of a 5-speed manual. The manual includes Subaru's Hill Holder feature to prevent rolling back on inclines. Forester's AWD system does not include low-range gearing. Antilock brakes are standard. All but the 2.5 X have 4-wheel disc brakes. Front side airbags that provide head and torso protection are standard. Curtain side airbags are unavailable. XT has leather upholstery. The L.L Bean has a load-leveling suspension and leather upholstery with suede trim.
