2006 Nissan Sentra Review
Nissan's smallest sedans are virtual reruns for 2006 pending redesigned versions due for 2007. Sentra comes in economy-oriented 1.8 and 1.8 S models, and as the sporty SE-R and SE-R Spec V. All have 4-cyl engines. The 1.8 versions have 126 hp and offer a 5-speed manual transmission or optional 4-speed automatic. SE-R has 165 hp and uses the automatic transmission. Spec V has 175 hp and mandatory 6-speed manual. SE-R and Spec V include 4-wheel disc brakes instead of rear drums, plus sport suspensions and 16- and 17-inch wheels, respectively. Other Sentras have 15-inch wheels. The 1.8 S offers alloy 16s in a Sport Appearance Package that also includes a rear spoiler, fog lights, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. ABS packaged with front side airbags is available for all but the base 1.8. The Spec V has specific exterior and interior trim, sport seats, and available Brembo-brand brakes.

News
A redesigned 2007 Sentra bows this fall with fresh styling, more standard power, and added features. The sporty SE-R model is on furlough. A new platform adds 5.9 inches to wheelbase, 2.3 inches to overall length, and 3.2 inches to width vs. the 2000-2006 generation. A 135-hp 2.0-liter 4-cyl engine and 6-speed manual transmission replace a 126-hp 1.8 and 5-speed manual. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) providing near-infinite drive ratios is optional; it replaces a conventional 4-speed automatic. ABS is optional, but front side and curtain side airbags are standard. Also standard are air conditioning and power windows/locks. Sentra's rear seat cushion can be flipped up, allowing the split seatback to fold flat with the floor. Optional are leather upholstery, wireless cell phone link, and keyless entry/starting. Prices won't be announced until just before sales begin, but Nissan says MSRPs will start around $15,000. Keep checking back with us for further news.
