2007 Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works Grand Prix
Another sport-tuned model, the most powerful to date, will be added to the Mini Cooper's lineup. Announced at the New York Auto Show, the Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works Grand Prix Kit will join Base and S models. The limited-edition model has 46 more horsepower than the S, and is 88 pounds lighter. The S' supercharged 1.6-liter engine is tuned to make 214 horsepower for the John Cooper Works GP Kit, 7 more horsepower than the optional JCW Tuning Kit currently available on the sporty/performance car.
Unlike other four-passenger Mini Coopers, only a 2-seat configuration is available. Other unique standard features include a limited-slip differential, dynamic stability control, sport suspension, sport brakes, and an aerodynamic package with contoured front and rear air dams, extra-low side sills, and a roof spoiler. Also distinguishing it from other models is Metallic Thunder Blue body paint, Pure Silver roof paint, and Chili Red painted air dams and mirrors.
Inside, the front seats sport a leather and cloth upholstery combination and three-spoke leather steering wheel, both exclusive to the GP model. The backseat has been turned into a flat-loading luggage area, with new storage compartments.
Mini will make only 2,000 of the S John Cooper works GP kit, and only 415 will be on sale starting this fall in the United States. Each will feature a specific production number on the roof, and will cost $31,150.
