2008 Audi TT
In a surprise event, Europe got the first look at the new 2008 Audi TT premium sporty/performance coupe last week. The coupe made its North American debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show. TT made its entrance New York style, flanked by New York fashion models and designers during its roll down the runway.
This second-generation TT is constructed of 69 percent aluminum and is 5.4 inches longer and three inches wider than the 2006 TT. It rides on 19-inch wheels instead of the previous generation's 16s. The front-end, with its larger single frame grille, is also new for 2008. So is a tailgate spoiler that automatically deploys at 45 miles per hour to increase the coupe's aerodynamics.
Two engines are offered for 2007: a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, offered in the A3 and A4, or a 3.2-liter V6 found in the current generation TT. Both come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed SMT. The 6-speed automatic was dropped for 2008. Audi's Quattro AWD system is available on V6 versions.
Timing for the convertible model has not yet been announced. Look for the TT coupe in spring of 2007.
