ACCELERATION

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
7 6.7

Test car did 6.8 sec 0-60 mph, on par with V8 class rivals. Good power at 30-50 mph, but automatic transmission can annoy by hunting among gears in light-throttle cruising, and its tardy downshifts hamper passing sprints.

FUEL ECONOMY

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
4 4.6

Test models averaged 17.7-19.0 mpg. Lincoln recommends regular-grade fuel.

RIDE QUALITY

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
7 6.7

Less composed than European rivals, but comfortable enough over most bumps. Minor impacts from tar strips, expansion joints fairly well-masked.

STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
7 7.1

Capable and balanced in aggressive cornering, with good grip and steering feel, moderate body lean, strong brakes. Available antiskid system recommended for its added measure of safety.

QUIETNESS

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
7 6.8

Not super-hushed, but low wind and engine noise, only minor tire roar on coarse pavement.

CONTROLS

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
6 6.7

Clear gauges. Climate system mounted low with small display, but easy to use. Navigation touch screen absorbs most audio functions, with less complication than most. Most interior materials slightly below class standard.

ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
7 7.4

Firm, comfortable seats; their optional heating/cooling can be set to maintain same temperature as automatic climate system. Ample leg room. Available sunroof cuts into head clearance, but not severely. Large door mirrors offset visibility lost to thick rear roof pillars.

ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
6 5.5

Not cramped, but a bit shy on foot space, knee clearance, head room. Two 6-footers is the practical limit for long-distance comfort.

CARGO ROOM

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
2 4

Only small suitcases stand upright in shallow trunk. Fore/aft length limited, bulky lid hinges can crunch cargo. Parking brake controlled by center-console switch, freeing space for console storage and large armrest.

VALUE WITHIN CLASS

V8 Sport w/nav. sys. Class Average
4 5.9

LS offers a reasonable array of features, capable road manners, and the least expensive V8 in the premium midsize-car class. But sales are slow, reflecting its unexceptional interior decor and relative lack of cachet compared to like-priced rivals.
