The RX is a good luxury SUV as long as the driver has limited sporting intentions. Sadly, the 400h is a poor blend of hybrid technology. Averaging only 24 mpg over 740 miles, I had to put up with a finicky powertrain and premium-grade fuel. I really wish Lexus had just used the 4-cylinder engine from the Highlander and put a larger electric motor at the rear wheels. I think you'd see at least equal mpg with a much less complicated drivetrain.

While the 400h is an impressive vehicle, it's difficult to justify its price premium over a regular RX--or a hybrid Toyota Highlander, which costs about $10,000 less.
