Vehicle Highlights
Lexus's flagship SUV is basically a retrimmed Land Cruiser from parent-company Toyota. The only engine is a V8 with 275 hp, a gain of 40 hp from 2005. A 5-speed automatic is the sole transmission. All-wheel drive with low-range gearing is standard, as is ABS and traction/antiskid control. LX seats eight. Front torso side airbags are standard, as are curtain side airbags that cover the first two seating rows. LX also comes with driver-adjustable shock absorbers and ride-height controls. A navigation system with rearview camera and wireless cell phone link are standard. DVD entertainment is optional. So is Lexus's Night View system, which projects onto the windshield a black-and-white image of objects beyond headlight range. LX 470's performance and accommodations mirror those of the Land Cruiser.
COMPETITION
Consumer GuideĀ® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position. Based on mainstream Large SUVs, Premium Large SUVs are really super-sized luxury liners. All are powerful, pricey, and extremely thirsty at the pump.
Our Best Buys is Toyota Land Cruiser. Our Recommended pick is Cadillac Escalade.
