The i-350 provided impressive ride quality for a compact pickup. But given Isuzu's vague longterm reliability $27,000 price sticker for this test vehicle, it is a difficult vehicle to recommend over some competitors.

Given Isuzu's precarious market position in the U.S. I'd be hard-pressed to recommend any i-Series. However, like the Colorado on which it is based, the i-350 is an excellent compact pickup that has the most carlike ride of any and returns reasonable fuel economy. I was struck by sticker shock when I saw that this test model was $27,000, then again it was the loaded LS crew cab.

Our 4x4 crew-cab tester listed for about $2400 less than a similarly-equipped Toyota Tacoma, and in most respects, it compared fairly well. The difference in price, however, will probably be more than made up for at resale time, making the Toyota a safer choice.
Tom Appel
If you're non-committal about Chevy's Colorado, then you'll be absolutely ambivalent about Isuzu's i-Series trucks. Our test i-350 is a thoroughly likable truck, and dealers are likely to be offering massive discounts. But if your Spidey Resale-Value Alarm is tingling at the thought of Isuzu pulling out of the U.S. (which they almost certainly are) then keep going till you get to the Chevy store. There's nothing not to like here--save the unsettling throb of a big 5-cyl engine--but unless you think Isuzu's final U.S. offering is somehow collectible... Keep shopping.
