Sonata can't quite match the overall goodness of an Accord or Camry, but the difference isn't nearly as great as the price spread would imply. Hyundai has delivered a high-value family sedan at a bargain price. Too bad the LX's 17-inch tires spoil the ride.

Our test LX V6 is exactly $3955 less expensive than an identically equipped Accord EX V6. What amazes is how little the Sonata gives up for that advantage. The handling is not quite as sharp, the transmission is a little less refined...that's about it. Tack on a longer warranty and anonymous good looks, and Sonata makes a compelling package that threatens to change the way Americans think about midsize cars.
