This Civic strikes me as a mini Accord. Steering, handling, and body rigidity seem to be much improved from the last generation. The price of our tester, $21K, does seem a bit high for the class, but this is a much more refined car than the last model.

Civic continues to lead the class as a great overall value with few faults and plenty of virtues. Tall folks might find other cars more accommodating, and some competitors offer greater power and better isolation, but as an all-around vehicle, Civic really has no peers.
Tom Appel
Civic has mastered the great triumvirate of acceleration, ride, and handling in a car under $20,000. No car I have driven this year is more deserving of Consumer Guide's Best Buy award. Skip the annoying navigation system, but do pony up for an EX model. Looking for a really nice small car? Look no further.

The new Civic sports more refinement and a more contemporary feel. However, I'm not sold on the styling of the interior, nor its functionality. As for power, the hybrid still doesn't have enough and fuel economy in my daily commute is only slightly better than a conventional model. I'd recommend Civic, but Honda's stranglehold on the subcompact market is slipping fast.
Rick Cotta
Our test Hybrid averaged 41 mpg in my hands, but that's not what impressed me most about the new Civic. Its combination of compliant ride, terrific maneuverability, and stylish and accommodating interior would put these cars--regardless of model--tops on my list of small family sedans. The Hybrid trades power and smoothness for terrific fuel efficiency; whether that's a fair exchange is debatable and depends on your perspective.
Tom Appel
Civic Hybrid does what it should, provide decent mobility and outstanding fuel economy. For a little less money the not-much-less-frugal Civic EX offers a vastly more enjoyable driving experience, but then you're not saving the world, are you?
