Vehicle Highlights
Dodge revives a name from its past for a sedan companion to the Magnum wagon, and adds high-performance versions of both cars for 2006. Charger and Magnum share a basic platform with the Chrysler 300 sedan. Chargers have rear-wheel drive. Magnum offers rear- or all-wheel drive. Both seat five and offer V6 and V8 engines. The Magnum SE has a 190-hp V6. The Charger SE and Magnum SXT have a 250-hp V6. R/T versions of both have a 340-hp V8, and high-performance SRT8 versions have a 425-hp V8. The 340-hp V8 has Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System, which deactivates four cylinders while cruising to save fuel. All Magnums and Chargers have an automatic transmission: a 4-speed on Magnum SEs, a 5-speed on the others.
ABS and traction/antiskid control are optional on Magnum SE, standard on others. Available on all are front side airbags and curtain side airbags. AWD SXT, R/T, and SRT8 models have firmer suspension tuning. SRT8s add Brembo-brand brakes and specific trim. Split folding rear seatbacks are standard on all but Charger SE. Available are adjustable pedals and wireless cell phone link. The Road/Track Performance Group option gives Charger R/T 350 hp and adds special suspension tuning; a Daytona R/T Package adds throatier exhaust tuning and unique trim.
