Lincoln's recipe for success includes eschewing the group's hum-drum branding of years past in order to transform themselves into "America's luxury vehicle brand." That spot is currently held by rival brand, Cadillac.

2006 auto show videoZephyr was the first new Lincoln to embody the group's new image and brand plan, followed by 2007 MKX SUV revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. Further down the line, Lincoln showed consumers what could be next with the luxury-oriented mks concept sedan also shown at the show.

Lincoln announced a new luxury sport-utility vehicle at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. Replacing outgoing Aviator, the MKX is geared to appeal to the previous Aviator's audience with luxury-SUV appointments like steering-linked adaptive headlights, a panoramic glass roof, heated and cooled front seats, THX II audio system, and DVD navigation. Outside, the 5-passenger vehicle completely parts ways with the Aviator's boxy SUV design and resembles the Lexus RX with its sloped rear end. Underhood is a 3.5-liter engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Like the similar Ford Edge, MKX's underpinnings are shared with Ford's Fusion and Lincoln's Zephyr, which were introduced last year. Lincoln is aiming to appeal to more luxury-oriented buyers with its newer vehicles. Expect to see MKX on sale late this year.

Could the MKS concept that debuted at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show foreshadow what lies ahead for Lincoln's flagship sedan? MKS' exterior styling cues depart from the boxy sedan lines of the Lincoln Town Car. Instead, MKS has a more fluid, rounded look, including a new, more angled grille design. MKS is powered by a 315-horsepower V8 engine and 6-speed automatic. Interior features include heated and cooled seats with 14-way power adjustments, a panoramic glass roof, adaptive led lighting, navigation system, Bluetooth capability, and DVD-audio surround sound.
