With both concept car entries this year, the Reflex coupe and Super Chief pickup, Ford hinted at what they can, or perhaps plan, to do in terms of developing a vehicle not dependent on gasoline. Inside Ford's Reflex concept sporty coupe is a technological showcase of alternative-fuel possibilities. Featuring a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain, Reflex is said to get an estimated 65 miles per gallon. Solar panels add an extra boost of power. inside, the interior is made from synthetic and regenerated materials, and the rear seats are outfitted with inflatable seatbelt airbags. Similarly, the Super Chief concept pickup takes the definition of a flexible-fuel vehicle to a whole new level. With a system Ford calls Tri-Flex fueling, the truck's supercharged V10 can run on compressed hydrogen, E85 ethanol/gasoline fuel, or gasoline. The bold, aggressive, and utilitarian-looking chrome exterior is sharply contrasted by the vehicle's walnut, brushed aluminum, and brown leather interior, which features a full glass roof and automated ottoman.
