Last month, Automotive Journalists from North America bestowed the Car of the Year Award to the Honda Civic and the Truck of the Year to Honda Ridgeline. It was the first time both awards were given to the same auto manufacturer. The newly redesigned Civic also garnered the Gold Safety Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

At the Detroit auto show, Honda addressed growing concerns that Civic was getting too expensive with a new subcompact called Fit. At the 2006 Chicago Auto Show, Honda continued to move Civic upmarket with its introduction of a pre-production Civic Si sedan concept.

Last year at the Chicago Auto Show, Honda unveiled the Civic Si concept. A year later, and on the 20th anniversary of the group's Si performance line, it took the wraps off of a new near-production Civic Si sedan concept. This concept marks the first time Honda has ever offered a sedan variant of an Si model.

The Si sedan concept shares its powertrain with the Civic sedan and features 18-inch cast aluminum alloy wheels. Honda estimates that the Si sedan concept, when it goes on sale this fall, will have a broader appeal than the coupe version but still attract the performance enthusiast buyer.
