2006 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo: Overview

Chevrolet gives its largest cars more power and revised styling for 2006. Impala is the sedan version of the Monte Carlo coupe. Both come in LS, LT 3.5, LT 3.9, LTZ, and sporty SS models. LS and LT 3.5 have a 211-hp V6, up 30 hp from 2005's base engine. LT 3.9 and LTZ models have a new 242-hp V6. SS models get a 303-hp V8 with GM's Active Fuel Management, which deactivates four cylinders while cruising to save fuel. All use a 4-speed automatic transmission. SS models have a sport suspension. All Impalas except SS are available with a front bench seat for six-passenger seating. SS Impalas and all Monte Carlos have front buckets. Impala comes with curtain side airbags. Monte Carlo offers only front side airbags. ABS and traction control are optional on LS and LT 3.5, standard otherwise. OnStar Assistance is standard, leather upholstery and remote engine start are options.
