It is very hard to fault this car. Dynamically, it isn't the equal to a 5-Series, but it's close. It isn't as quiet as a Lexus GS, but it's close. It isn't the overall value of a Infiniti M, but it's close. Cadillac did their homework, started with great chassis and powertrain components, and priced STS on the mark. I'd recommend this car to anyone.

Without question, our V6 AWD test vehicle represents the best value in the STS line. Throttle response is instant and adequately strong, the ride/handling combination agreeable, and the interior accommodating for all but the largest folks. Trouble is, the STS offers little more usable space than its CTS sibling, yet costs significantly more; only its optional AWD and nicer appointments set it apart. Unfortunately, that puts it in price parity with the Best Buy Infiniti M, trading some of that car's posh, hi-tech ambiance for a simpler, more stately design--which in many ways, represents a refreshing change-of-pace in this class. STS's biggest problems might be in price-to-prestige ratio, customer service, and resale value, areas where imported brands generally hold an edge.

For power, power delivery, ride, and quietness, this biggish Caddy stands proud. Factor in small front door offerings, poor outward visibility, and a cramped rear seat and impressions sour somewhat. Caddy needed a homerun from the STS, but this 2nd year freshman only doubled. Check out the Infiniti M35/M45 first, even though the Caddy V8 makes better noise.

I wanted to like this car, I really did. But like other GM vehicles, STS-V is a solid basic design and powertrain looking for a car to go around it. I can think of other ways I'd spend $77,000 on a car.

Kirk Bell

There are a lot of better ways to spend $75,000. If I wanted this kind of power in a four-door sedan, I'd take a little lesser interior, a little less nimble handling, and save $35K with the Chrysler 300C SRT8.
