Vehicle Highlights

Fresh styling details, available run-flat tires, and real-wood interior trim are among 2005 additions to the V70/XC70 lines. V70s are wagon versions of Volvo's S60 sedan. XC70s add a raised suspension and SUV-flavored appearance cues. All use an inline 5-cyl engine, and all are turbocharged except the 168-hp V70 2.4 model. V70 2.5T models and the XC70 have 208 hp. The V70 T5 has 247 hp, the V70 R has 300. XC and R have all-wheel drive, the others are front-drive. Discontinued is the AWD V70 2.5T. The 2.4 comes with a 5-speed manual transmission, the R with a 6-speed manual. A 5-speed automatic is optional for those models and standard in the others. T5 has a firmer sport suspension. R has Volvo's Four-C suspension that's driver adjustable for ride and handling. Traction control and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard on all. An antiskid system is standard on T5 and R, optional on the others. Standard wheel sizes are 15 inches on the 2.4, 16 on the 2.5T and XC, and 17 on T5 and R. Newly optional for all but the XC and R are run-flat tires on 17-inch wheels. All models come with front side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags. Dual integrated rear child seats, a rear-facing 3rd-row seat, and a navigation system are optional. For '05, V70s have a "waterfall" grille appearance, XCs an eggcrate grille, and both get revised headlamps, taillamps, and color-coordinated exterior details. Real-wood cabin trim replaces synthetic in optional Premium packages, and rear obstacle detection is a new option. No longer available is Volvo's On-Call Plus assistance system.
