Suzuki's smallest and oldest SUV loses its base Vitara model for 2005. Remaining is the Grand Vitara, a 4-dr wagon with a 165-hp V6 offered in LX and top-line EX trim. LX comes with manual transmission, EX with an automatic that's optional on LX. Both versions offer rear-wheel drive or 4WD that must be disengaged on dry pavement but includes low-range gearing. ABS is standard on EX 4WD, optional on the others. Neither front side airbags nor curtain side airbags are offered. Like other Suzukis, Grand Vitara carries a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that includes roadside assistance, and transferable 7/100,000 powertrain coverage with provision for a free loaner car.
