Vehicle Highlights
Due to be dropped from the Mercury lineup during the model year, Sable sedans roll into 2005 virtually unchanged. Wagon models have been discontinued. GS and LS models are offered. GS versions have a standard front bench seat for 6-passenger capacity. Front bucket seats are standard on the LS and optional on GS. Both use a 3.0-liter V6 engine: a 153-hp version in GS, a 201-hp dohc variant for LS. A 4-speed automatic is the sole transmission. Antilock brakes are optional on GS, standard on LS. An available package bundles traction control with front side airbags. Sable shares its design with the Ford Taurus.
COMPETITION
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position. Midsize Cars represent the heart of the U.S. car market. Most are price-sensitive, conservatively designed, family oriented sedans and wagons.
Our Best Buys include the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Our Recommended picks include the Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, and Subaru Outback and Legacy.
