The SL500 is an excellent, precise machine. The hardtop works like a charm, the ride is luxury sedanlike, and the looks are to die for. But $92K just seems too steep. For $65 or $70K, this would be a great deal.

The SL doesn't feel like a sporty roadster, more like a touring convertible. In that mission, it fulfills its role quite well.

You buy a car like this because you can, not because it makes sense. If I were blowing the kid's college fund, I'd waste it on the more engaging Audi S4 Cabriolet, and spend the change on gas.
