The Grand Cherokee is rather narrowly focussed, with nice driving manners, off-road heroism, and great hemi power offset by poor fuel economy and subpar rear-seat and cargo room. But this was quite well outfitted for around $40,000.

Kirk Bell

At $40,000 lavishly equipped, it's not a bad deal. I'd choose this vehicle over the Durango and TrailBlazer and maybe the Explorer. It's a little smaller than those, making it more driveable in the city. In fact, it would be my pick if I planned to do any off-roading. I'd still prefer a Nissan Murano or Honda Pilot for personal or family duty. One note: We recommend the 4.7 V8 in our Value section. This is a good point over the base on Laredo models. However, choosing the 5.7 over the 4.7 on the Limited is also wise. It costs $1245 more, but you don't just get the engine. You also get cylinder deactivation, AWD with a 2-speed transfer case, antiskid, and front and rear limited slip. That's a wise $1245 to spend.

Rick Cotta

Overall, the Grand Cherokee struck me as a civilized, competent, but slightly pricey midsize SUV that offers the potent Hemi as its greatest asset. Sadly, that engine comes standard with dismal fuel economy, making the true cost even higher.

Tom Appel

This is a very nice SUV. I wish it got more than 11 mpg. Is owning a Hemi worth the waste?
