Vehicle Highlights
Revisions to styling, instrumentation, and cabin trim mark the 2005 S-Type. Occupying the middle of Jaguar's sedan range in size and price, the S-Type comes in three models: the 235-hp V6 3.0, the 294-hp V8 4.2, and the high-performance supercharged 390-hp V8 R. All have a 6-speed automatic transmission; the 3.0 no longer offers a 5-speed manual. Standard are antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, antiskid/traction control, front side airbags, and head-protecting curtain side airbags. For '05, all get a freshened front end and revised main gauges. The 3.0 model trades its 16-inch wheels for the 4.2's 17-inch size, and both models are available with a taut-suspension Sport Package. That option for '05 replaces its 17-inch wheels with the 18s. The 18s also are now a stand-alone option for the 3.0 and 4.2. Newly available with the Sport Package and on the R is aluminum interior trim to replace wood. Also new is a luxury VDP Edition Package for the 4.2 with upgrades to the standard leather and wood interior decor among its features. The R continues with its exclusive mesh grille, seats, and interior trim, and comes with the xenon headlamps that are optional for other S-Types. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on V8s, optional for the 3.0. Other options include a navigation system and Adaptive Cruise Control designed to maintain a set following distance. The British-built S-Type shares its basic underskin design with the Lincoln LS from Jaguar's parent-company Ford.
