2005 Infiniti G35 Review
More power and revised styling mark 2005 for Infiniti's least-expensive models. G35 comes as a rear-wheel-drive sedan and coupe or as the all-wheel-drive G35x sedan. The only engine is a 3.5-liter V6. Rear-drive G35s are available with a 6-speed manual transmission or 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate. The G35x is automatic only and has a Snow Mode that allows the driver to lock in a 50/50 front/rear torque split. With automatic transmission, sedans gain 20 hp for 2005 to share the coupe's 280-hp rating. Manual-transmission sedans and coupes now have 298 hp, a gain of 38 for sedans, 18 for coupes. Standard on all are antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, front side airbags, and head-protecting curtain side airbags; the coupe's curtain bags cover only the front seats. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, and xenon headlights also are standard. Wood interior trim is optional on automatic-transmission G35s. A navigation system and satellite radio are optional on all. Limited-slip differential and sport suspension are standard on manual-transmission models, optional on rear-drive automatics. Rear-drive sedans get 18-inch wheels with manual transmission, 17s or optional 18s with automatic. The G35x is available only with 17s. Coupes get 19-inch wheels with manual transmission, 17s or optional 18s or 19s with automatic.

News
We haven't heard anything lately about future plans for the G35, but Infiniti parent Nissan typically works on a 4-5 year design cycle, so we'd expect a total redo by model-year 2008. At present, G35 is only in its third model year.

Sources say the Infiniti badge will probably appear on the long-awaited U.S. version of Nissan's high-performance Skyline GT-R, expected here as an early '08 model. The AWD twin-turbo V6 coupe has long been a global performance icon and rally-racing star, and is familiar to younger U.S. enthusiasts from popular video games. The car we'll get is the next-generation design. Almost nothing is known about it right now, but upcoming auto-show concepts may provide clues.
