Its bed is too narrow to lay a 4'x8' sheet flat between the wheel wells, so in my book, Dakota doesn't offer any real advantages in trade for its large dimensions. But neather do any of the other "compact" pickups that have now grown to midsize. Dakota impresses for driving dynamics, sound insulation, and available AWD, making it a competitive domestic alternative to the Frontier and Tacoma, both of which are also redesigned for '05.
