2005 Chrysler Sebring Review
Chrysler's midsize line consists of sedans, convertibles, and coupes. The sedan and convertible share a Chrysler underskin design and use Chrysler powertrains. The coupe takes its platform and powertrains from Mitsubishi's 2002-2005 Eclipse. The convertible body style is exclusive to the Sebring line, but sedans and coupes have Dodge Stratus counterparts.

All Sebrings offer 4- and 6-cyl engines. A 4-speed automatic is the only transmission. Chrysler's AutoStick automatic with manual shift gate is available on top-line models. Head-protecting curtain side airbags are optional on sedans, unavailable on the other body styles. Front torso side airbags are optional for coupes. The convertible has no side airbags. ABS and traction control are standard on the Limited convertible and TSi sedan, optional on all other Sebrings except the base coupe. Note that coupe production is scheduled to end during the 2005 model year.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position. Midsize Cars represent the heart of the U.S. car market. Most are price-sensitive, conservatively designed, family oriented sedans and wagons.

Our Best Buys include the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Our Recommended picks include the Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, and Subaru Outback and Legacy.
News
A redesigned Sebring sedan and convertible are expected for 2007. So, too, a clean-slate version of the related Dodge Stratus sedan. But both nameplates will drop coupes due to continuing poor sales of the current models--and because partner Mitsubishi, lately awash in troubles, is cutting back operations at the Illinois plant where it builds the coupes for Chrysler Group.

Buzzmeisters say the new Sebrings and Stratus will differ more visually than they have before. The Chryslers may get a sort of "junior 300" look, but little can be confirmed now about any aspect of the redesign. One thing we do know is that these models will be built on a new midsize-car platform developed by Chrysler and Mitsubishi. This was also rumored for a crossover wagon at some later time, but it's now unclear where that idea stands.
